Non-Profit form for the German Testing Board

Today, the German Testing Board e.V. (GTB e.V.) comes into existence. The choice of the e.V. (eingetragener Verein– registered society) legal form is part of the development of the Board as a non-profit organisation. As part of the restructuring, various changes have been made to working practices.

The board members are convinced that the new legal form is ideally suited to the GTB’s function as an independent and neutral commission dedicated to promoting the Certified-Tester qualification (www.istqb.org) in Germany.

The GTB e.V. is open to experts from industry, consultants, trainers, scientists and specialists from other organisations. Special emphasis is placed on the further establishment of the Certified-Tester programme at university level, making it easier to move directly from further education to a testing career. An important new development is the provision for supporting memberships.

In the near future, the GTB e.V. will respond to growing demand for examinations by nominating additional certification bodies. In addition, efforts will be made to raise awareness outside the original software-quality field – for example with project managers, software developers and members of other specialist groups. The longstanding certification partnership with the Software Quality Institute (iSQI) will be maintained.. All previously issued certificates for Certified-Tester qualifications remain valid.

Currently, the GTB e.V. is working on the translation of the new Certified-Tester syllabus along with the examination questions and their national variants. The new syllabus was approved by the ”International Software Testing Qualifications Board“ (ISTQB) at the beginning of May. Today, testing Boards exist in 18 countries. Around 20,000 Certified-Tester certificates have been issued, more than 2,000 of them in Germany.

Tilo Linz, of imbus AG, was voted Chair of the GTB e.V. Horst Pohlmann, Hella KGaA Hueck & Co.), is Deputy Chair.
