ISTQB® Certified Tester:
GTB pays examination fees for BaföG recipients

The German Testing Board supports students on their way to becoming ISTQB® Certified Testers. Recipients of the BaföG student grant will receive with immediate effect the examination fees for the tester training in retrospective, provided that they have passed the exam successfully and have submitted proof that they are eligible to receive BaföG. This rule applies to all exams taken after 1st January 2008.

Reimbursement is made retrospectively: The students go through the training, take the final exam and pay the required exam fees. After the up-and-coming software testers have received their certification, and provided that they were BaföG recipients at the time of the exam, they can apply to the GTB for reimbursement of the exam fees.

This application can be informal and must be received by the GTB within six months of passing the exam. Some information and proof of eligibility are, however, required. This includes confirmation that the student receives the BaföG grant by enclosing a current BaföG statement, and also the ISTQB® certificate to prove that the exam was passed successfully. In addition to this, the GTB requires a receipt or some proof of payment of the exam fees as well as the applicant’s bank details.

„The GTB has an interest in good training of young testing professionals“, says GTB Chairman Tilo Linz in support of the BaföG initiative, „and the ISTQB® certificate is a key qualification within the profession.“ For this reason, nobody’s way to becoming ISTQB® Certified Tester should be blocked, as long as the person shows the necessary motivation and capability.
